Full course description
The purpose of this course is to enhance teachers’ knowledge, understand, and use of evidence-based practices and strategies related to planning, implementing, and managing standards-based English as a Second Language (ESL) and content instruction. Teachers will develop skills in using a variety of classroom organization techniques, program models and teaching strategies for developing and integrating language skills. Additionally, teachers will integrate technology and develop appropriate adaptations of classroom resources.
Domain 4: ESOL Curriculum and Materials Development (CM)
Standard CM.1: Planning for Standards-Based Instruction for ELLs
Teachers will plan and deliver lessons that include English language acquisition and meet the needs of ELLs at varying English proficiency levels.
Standard CM.2: Effective Use of Resources and Technologies
Teachers will use technological tools and benchmarks-aligned resources to effectively meet the needs of ELLs at varying English proficiency levels.
Standard CM.1: Planning for Standards-Based Instruction for ELLs
CM.1.1: Teachers will plan for benchmarks-aligned and linguistically appropriate instruction to create a student-centered learning environment.
Clarification 1: Instructional approaches include explicit, systematic, differentiated, scaffolded, and tiered instruction.
CM.1.2: Teachers will plan learning tasks to meet the needs of ELLs with interrupted or limited education.
Standard CM.2: Effective Use of Resources and Technologies
CM.2.1: Teachers will use benchmarks-aligned materials and other resources based on ELLs’ language proficiency data.
CM.2.2: Teachers will integrate applicable technological tools into instruction to support ELLs’ development of academic language and content knowledge.
