This course is designed for School-Based Threat Management Team (SBTMT) Principals, Chairs, and Vice Chairs and focuses on the leadership responsibilities associated with implementing Florida’s Harm Prevention and Threat Management Model at the school level. Participants will deepen their understanding of team leadership expectations, decision-making responsibilities, and the processes used to support students while maintaining a safe school environment.Instruction emphasizes how school leaders guide and support effective multidisciplinary threat management teams. Participants will learn strategies for facilitating productive team meetings, interpreting and utilizing the Florida Harm Prevention and Threat Management Instrument, leading collaborative discussions, and making informed determinations regarding student risk levels and appropriate interventions.
The course also highlights the importance of maintaining procedural fidelity, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation, and overseeing the development and monitoring of Student Support Management Plans designed to address underlying student needs while reducing risk.
This training aligns with the Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS) related to Professional and Ethical Norms and School Operations, Management, and Safety. Participants who complete the course may receive FELS credit for Threat Management training, reinforcing that effective threat management is a core leadership responsibility—not simply a compliance requirement.
