Description

The purpose of this component is to provide participants with an overview of the evolution of gifted education on the national, state, and local level. Major events affecting gifted education are described as well as major policies and procedures governing the delivery of gifted education. Cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics common to individuals who are gifted are identified along with strategies that can be used to meet the academic needs of different categories of students who are gifted.
This course qualifies for 60 ESE/SWD credits towards the 300 ESE/SWD credits needed for Gifted Endorsement.

Nature and Needs of Gifted Students is one of the five competencies required for the gifted endorsement. This 10-week course will enable participants to gain a deep understanding of the characteristics, identification processes, educational needs, and support strategies essential for gifted learners. Participants will explore foundational theories, apply best practices, and develop skills to effectively address the academic and social-emotional needs of gifted students.
